Self-described as “dark-folk,” Pretty Mouth is not what their name might suggest. The songs on their record Satan in Clothes are not attractive sensations of poppy lassitude; instead, they are heartfelt and tragic, beautiful, once the listener connects the lyricism to the smooth strumming and somber mood.

Marie Litton’s voice is perfect for this group. The guitar and cello fit perfectly with her lofty voice; fast paced when it needs to be, but not afraid to maintain an air of flaccidness when the vocals need to take the forefront. Dark-folk is a good description of the record, and the record is perfect for the dark snowy day that it was listened to.
