In Flames, a band that’s been considered legendary for almost 20 years in the death metal genre, headlined at the Summit Music Hall on Friday, February 10th with Trivium and Veil of Maya. The show was an instant sell out, and many of the fans that came out belonged to the original generation of metal heads. In Flames is referred to as one of the founders of death metal. Their sound became the foundation for the music that fills the genre today. It was no surprise that with such a strong influence over the music scene and a fan following of all ages the show was packed full of devoted music lovers. Trivium played just before In Flames and also brought in quite a crowd.  Veil of Maya had perhaps the most progressive sound of the night, encompassing many different musical elements into their songs such as melodic metal, thrash, deathcore, and djent. Instrumentally, the driving force in any Veil of Maya song is Marc Okubo‘s guitar for the exceptional riffs and fast precise playing. Considered to be the mastermind in the band, much of the musical complexity rests on his skill. The unique sound set them apart from the other bands playing and left a strong lasting impression on the crowd. On February 28th, the band will be releasing a much anticipated new full length titled “Eclipse”. With the release of the new album and their growing fan base, they’re definitely a band to keep an eye on.
