Jackyl have been hitting it hard for over twenty years, and they are bringing their pure-bred rock stylings to Casselman’s Bar and Venue on November 23. The show is also the Denver launch of Jesse James Bourbon, which will be flowing in mass at the event. Whether it is distilling spirits, producing a television show, or touring the country playing rock shows, Jesse James, the band’s enigmatic front man, keeps himself busy. We caught up with James and he had this to say about the current state of things.

CMB: What factors have helped the longevity of Jackyl?

JJ: We’re a celebration of the fundamentals of Rock N Roll and we just never get tired of celebrating. (The Ole Dirty Dirty, so to speak.)

CMB: Do you guys prefer to play intimate club shows such as Casselman’s or large festivals? Is there a noticeable difference in crowd reaction?

JJ: We turn large festivals into intimate shows.

CMB: After 25+ years in the business, how do you guys prepare for tour, and how do you keep yourselves motivated?

JJ: I have just released Jesse James Bourbon. It’s America’s Outlaw whiskey. It’s a true Kentucky bourbon, We’ve just added the honey and spiced flavors to the lineup. It’s the best damn preparation of a tour and a show of anything I’ve come across yet.

CMB: What’s coming up for the band in the new year?

JJ: The new season of Full Throttle Saloon will be running through February. Every Monday night on TruTV starting at 9pm ET. We’ll be starting down in Florida and working our way up the East Coast right after the first of the year tying in with a bunch of Full Throttle themed events.

CMB: How’s the experience with Full Throttle Saloon been? Has it been nice to apply your talents towards another medium?

JJ: For every one person who gets to go to Sturgis, there are a thousand at home who get to go vicariously through the TV show. I may not be able to get everyone out to Sturgis, but I can bring a little bit of Sturgis to the people. Dick Clark may have owned New Year’s Eve. I’ll take Sturgis any day.

CMB: How does Denver compare to other markets? When was the last time you were here?

JJ: Out of all the markets we play, Denver was one of the first ones to legalize marijuana.
