Production company/music app Lively has teamed up with Portugal. The Man to bring fans a new and unique way to enjoy the band’s live performances. The company will record each performance on the band’s current tour, hand out a download card as fans leave the venue, and have the performance available for download by the time they get home after the show. The Lively app is available for Android, Windows and iPhone users. Here are the details on the project:

CMB: How did Lively and PTM come together?

L: We love Portugal. The Man over here at Lively, and thought their live show should be archived with the kind of quality that their music deserves. When we approached their management, they were on board 100%, and from there the relationship took off.  John Gourley, PTM’s front man, explained it, “We pride ourselves on being a touring band.  We work very hard to give a great and unique performance. From tour to tour or even night-to-night our performance changes.  We have recorded a lot of shows ourselves and never released them and we know a lot of people record our shows and share them, but Lively came around and offered us an alternative that we are excited to use.

CMB: What is the background behind Lively and how did it get started (we provided a starting point based on existing marketing copy)?

L: Lively started when our CEO, Dean, noticed that the vast majority of people at shows were holding up their phones to capture audio and video of the sets. He realized that no one got what they wanted through that – artists didn’t get paid, and fans got really terrible quality and didn’t get to remember the show as it was. Dean started Lively shortly after to fix that problem, with high quality audio and video that artists can record on their own, and receive almost all of the profits from. Artists started getting on board, especially because bands have begun to ask people to put their phones down. It’s not wrong for people to want to share a show- live shows are such connective experiences that it’s great for people to feel involved by using technology. But with Lively, they get to actually be present at the show, with the artist. Not to mention, the professional audio is available just moments after the show ends, and the video is available the next day.

CMB: Where will the recorded PTM show be available for download/purchase/streaming, etc.

L: The recorded audio and video of the concert is available now on the Lively app.

CMB: Do you have to attend the shows to get the recorded version, and what does it cost?

L: No, you do not have to attend one of the shows to download the concert. We teamed up with Portugal. The Man and recently recorded the first show of their US Tour. Everyone has access to the show through the Lively app. Here’s quick access: http://bit.ly/18MU6Xc.

Downloading the Lively app is free, and downloading the audio and video of the concert is only $11.99.
