Some people might say that 23-year-old Fremont, California native Rome Ramirez got the ultimate hook up. Not only has he been fortunate enough to jam with legendary Sublime veterans Bud Gough and Eric Wilson, whom he became acquainted with through playing with Wilson at RAWSession prior to earning the spot as front man of the relatively new Sublime recreation Sublime With Rome, but SWR released its debut album Yours Truly last summer and has been touring their asses off for the last few years.

While that is definitely a pretty sweet deal any way you look at it, Rome worked hard as a solo performer prior to joining Sublime with Rome. In fact, he plans to release a solo album with SWR’s label Fueled by Ramen in the near future. He is also featured on The Dirty Heads song “Lay Me Down,” and occasionally can be seen on stage with the group. “Whenever we’re in the same spot at the same time, it happens,” Rome says. Colorado Music Buzz spoke with Rome about what’s going on with SWR’s upcoming tour and what fans can expect to hear in addition to Sublime with Rome and what will be on the set list when they roll through the City Auditorium in Colorado Springs on March 6.

As far as performing in Colorado goes, Rome and the guys are all about it. “Everyone looks forward to Colorado. Colorado is the best place when you’re on your way home because when you’re working your way back to Cali from the east coast, Colorado’s got the best fuckin’ weed!”

“We do a lot of old material, about 75%, with a few of the songs off the album and a couple covers,” he says, admitting that the group still relies heavily on classic Sublime songs. Gough, the band’s original drummer, recently left the group and has been replaced by Josh Freese, who “has been with us about 24 hours,” Rome says with a laugh. The current tour also features Everlast. “It’s kind of like a ‘90s nostalgia thing, ya know?” Rome says. “We had to find an artist that really covers that.”

Sublime with Rome’s album was put out by Fueled by Ramen records last July, and the band loves working with the label.  “They are awesome. They are not so hands on with the music,” Rome says. “They let us do the job and they kill it with the business. We couldn’t be any more happy.”
