Steeped in the folk tradition, Boulder artist Reed Föehl is largely known for his lyrical ability as an artist. He’s just returned from Vancouver, BC, where he’s recorded his latest album, slated for release this later this year. Reed brought with him some of his favorite folk and Americana musicians from around North America to help in the making of what’s guaranteed to be a fine album.

The album will be recorded in the Afterlife studio with studio engineer and drummer John Raham along with Americana guitar ninja Jefferson Hamer. The same creative forces that teamed up on Foehl’s highly acclaimed 2009 Once An Ocean album.
The idea for the new album is to capture Reed’s authentic, humble storytelling, delivered with his heartfelt voice, in close harmony with both Foehl & Jefferson on acoustic guitars and Raham on drums.

Reed is going for a different sound this time around with less production and a more focus on traditional recording methods. “The whole band will be set up in one room and we will record it live. It will be more raw and simple, yet intimate and flowing. We are going to tape, so it will sound good. Warm and nice. I am going to put this record out on vinyl also. Vinyl is so much more of an experience. You can hold the artwork in your hand, read the lyrics, and be more involved.”

Funny and upbeat, with just a pinch of sass, the Good Lovelies’ textbook three-part harmonies, constant instrument swapping and witty on-stage banter have enlivened the folk music landscape since they joined forces in 2006 for their first show at Toronto’s funky Gladstone Hotel.
