An exciting weekend is coming to the city of Colorado Springs, which generally spends its time under the shadows of Denver’s massive music scene, on August 16-17. A collection of secret national headliners, to be revealed soon, will be sharing the stage alongside several of Colorado’s top local metal and rock acts at a private showcase taking place at Sunshine Studios Live. The public will have a small window of opportunity to get tickets to the event. We caught up with promoter Bonne Bartron and got the details.

CMB: Give us the basic lowdown on the event and its purpose.

BB: The show is called “Out There…” the festival it is the 16th and 17th of August and it’s on the outdoor stage of Sunshine Studios LIVE! Angry Puppy Productions (the Film Production company) is hosting this show to honor the talent of Colorado’s underground music scene! We are going to include one of the bands from our line-up in the soundtrack to the film “Out There…” being shot in Colorado! Everyone who comes will have a chance to be a part of deciding which one of our amazing local bands will be featured in the movie, as the sound of Colorado!

We were not planning on doing this show, but when we saw the caliber of talent submitting for the spot on the soundtrack, we decided to go a step further. The only way to really know a band is to see them live! Instead of announcing a winner, we wanted to hold a party for the hardworking, super talented bands. They deserve a party in their honor, and so do the fans that make up the scene in CO. Arguably the best scene in the country! So, that’s what we are doing with this fest. We are inviting the best of CO, the best beer, the best food, the BEST STUFF to be at this party with us, and celebrate what is so great about this state… and there is A LOT to celebrate! We are also inviting a couple Huge National acts to play with our bands, to ensure the experience for all of the bands is as EPIC as they are! What’s cooler than sharing a stage with a band that has inspired you throughout your career?

CMB: Will tickets be available to the public, and if so, when and where?

BB: We have closed our VIP list with over a thousand tickets reserved. We want to keep the number of people low, and though the venue has a top out of 3000, we are limiting the number of tickets being sold to less than 2500. We are doing this because we want the experience to be amazing for EVERY SINGLE person who comes to the fest! We will be releasing a very limited number of tickets to the public. (Less than 1500) The tickets will go on sale the day we announce our headliners. We are announcing the headliner on the Angry Puppy Productions page first, Then The Sunshine Studios Live page and then publicly (we can give you the info third if you would like) we want our fans to have first crack!

CMB: Are you planning on continuing to bring shows like this to the Springs?

BB: This is the only show Angry Puppy Productions plans on doing at this time.

CMB: What local bands are on the bill?

BB:  The local bands on the line-up are: The Dead Lotus Society, Iconocaust, The Last Savior of God, The Beast Of Milwaukee, Public Display of Aggression, Enduality these 6 bands are the second day of the fest, and all 6 are in the running for the spot on the soundtrack.

CMB: When and where can we find out the national headliners?

BB: We will be announcing the headliners and the ticket sales on the Angry Puppy Productions facebook page, Sunshine Studios Live facebook page and then in a press release. We know as soon as we announce the headliners the tickets will be GONE! Especially because of the limited space and intimate theater… So, we want to make sure we give the scene first dibs!

CMB: How did you get involved?

BB: I (Bonné) grew up in Colorado, and I love this State. I decided to make this film the way I wrote it, true to Colorado. So I left L.A. for a while to make “Out There…” in favorite place in the world, right here in Colorado. I originally planned on having our composer write a song for the part of the movie where the two main characters (In “Out There…”) are listing to the radio and are freaking out over this amazing band playing. Then I went to a show at Sunshine Studios Live, where a few local bands were playing and it hit me! We should actually have a local band be on the radio in the movie! The scene is sick in Colorado, and the bands here are so damn talented, it would be a WASTE not to have one of them in the movie… I mean we are doing everything we can, including shooting here, to keep this movie authentically Colorado, so it seemed like a duh to include an amazing band from here! That’s when my crew and I decided to do an online audition for bands to submit for a chance to be featured in the soundtrack. When we had SOOOO many great bands submit we decided to host a party in the honor of the Colorado Music Scene… and the rest, as they say, is history! 🙂
